Where can I find Restatements, Uniform Acts, and Model Codes?

The American Law Institute (ALI) publishes Restatements of the Law, which summarize the general principles of common law in particular areas of the law. You can find Restatements in subscription-based databases.

  • Lexis Advance (Browse>Sources>By Category>Secondary Sources>Restatements)
  • WestlawNext (All Content>Secondary Sources>Restatements & Principles of the Law)

The Uniform Law Commission (ULC) drafts Uniform Acts, which are proposals for state legislation in particular areas of the law. You can find Uniform Acts on the ULC’s website.

Two of the most influential model codes are the Model Penal Code and the Uniform Commercial Code. You can find the Uniform Commercial Code on the following website.

You can find the Restatements, Model Penal Code, and Uniform Commercial Code in HeinOnline’s American Law Institute Library collection. You can also find Uniform Acts in HeinOnline’s National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws collection.

You can find print copies of the Restatements in Biddle (search “Restatement” in LOLA).
