How can I access material from off-campus? [Law Students and Faculty]

(If you are not a law student, see this answer)

For information about electronic resources to which the law library subscribes, see here.

One of the fastest ways to gain access to restricted access articles and publications from off-campus is to use a bookmarklet! A bookmarklet is a tool that allows you to insert the proxy information into the link you currently have.

To install the Biddle Law Library bookmarklet, follow the instructions here

To install the Van Pelt (main) Library bookmarklet, follow the instructions here

Once you have the bookmarklets installed in your bookmarks toolbar or favorites, when you are doing research from off-campus and using a search tool like Google Scholar, just follow these steps:

  1. Locate the article or other resource you want to access
  2. Click the appropriate bookmarklet
  3. Enter your information. (If you keep your browser open, you should only have to do this once.)
    1. For the Biddle bookmarklet, enter your surname and middle 8 digits of your PennCard.
    2. For the Penn Libraries bookmarklet, enter your PennKey and password.
  4. Then you should be able to access any publication that you would automatically be able to access from on-campus!

What is the appropriate bookmarklet? A basic rule of thumb: if it's a law database or publication, use the Biddle bookmarklet. If it's a general interest or non-law database, use the main UPenn proxy bookmarklet.
