What if a book is missing?

If the record says that the item is "Available" and the location is "Biddle Law Library Stacks," but the book is not on the shelf, please come to the Circulation Desk and report the item missing to the staff member on duty.  Check Penn Libraries to see if the item is available there.  Once the book has been marked missing and you've determined it is not available via Penn Libraries, you may request an Interlibrary Loan via the link in the book's record in Biddle's Search Center.

If the record says that the status is "Not Available," it usually means the book is checked out or missing.  Check Penn Libraries to see if the item is available there.  If not, you may place an Interlibrary Loan Request via the link in the book's record in Biddle's Search Center.  (Note: Source-hunting journal students should follow their journal's procedures.)

If the item's shelving location is "Lewis Stacks," use the Place Hold button to request the item.  Lewis Stacks are closed to patron browsing; our staff will pull the item for you and notify you when it is ready for pickup.  Stop by the Circulation Desk if you have any questions!
